Pillowcase Project Update

I am writing to update you on the Pillowcase Project. The ladies here in our office aer still working hard once a month to sew dresses for our orphans. To my understanding there are also several other groups making dresses in their towns and with their friends.

On top of that, The Pillowcase Project, has now fully partnered with us and is helping to provide dresses for all of our girls. We will be delivering these dress in December which is just 3 months away! All dresses will need to be in our office by the beginning of December so that we can sort through them and get them into the suitcase of our team members going on the mission trip.

Currently, we need more teenage sizes for our older girls. Mum Betty has communicated with us that about 150 of the 400 dress will need to be larger for our older girls. If you could make an extra effort to make dresses in this size that would be so helpful! Also, if you can make boys shorts that would be great too.

We are currently looking into what we will be doing for the 600 boys in our village. We will have to look at Uganda business or women making shorts locally to assist us in this project. You can help us by sponsoring a dress for $15 or even sponsoring boys shorts/tshirts for $15.

If you choose to sponsor this project, we would like to send a personal message from you to the child you sponsor so please provide us with a short note for them with your donation.

Pillowcase Project

This weekend The Oaks Fellowship hosted their first Pillowcase Project and several from our office attended. God is truly using these women to bring joy to our sweet orphan girls. The dresses are turning out great and I know that our girls are going to be so excited to wear them.

These are the wonderful dresses we completed at this event!

Remember, if you are helping with this and are making them at home. Please send them to our office when you are done. We are excited to see what you have come up with!

Fabric Donation

We received a fabric donation today from a fabric designer. It was such a blessing to get this supply of fabric for our Pillowcase Project.

We just want to let you know how inspiring you have been. I hope that the scraps will be helpful in reaching your goal. The Pillowcase Dresses are so cute and hopefully we can help you put a smile on a child when she receives her new dress.

The name of the line is LOVE and how fitting for the wonderful work that you do because we can see all the love you're putting into that work.

Pillowcase Night

Last night a group of women gathered together in our office to begin the Pillowcase Project. For several hours these women used their creative skills to design several different dresses for our sweet girls in Uganda.

I am excited about the joy these dresses will bring to our girls. They will get to put on dresses that were made just for them with no one else in mind. I know that this vision will mean so much to our girls as they received these dresses. It will be a joy to see them receive them in December.

Renaissance Ribbons

Thank you Renaissance Ribbons for your donation of ribbons to support our efforts in getting new dresses to all of our girls! We are excited here in the office to start this project. The girls in the office were having fun trying to envision how the ribbons would best work with what pillowcase colors. I personally am excited to see the final product and to see the faces on our orphans when they receive a dress made with love!

The Pillowcase Project

How many of us have tons of extra clothes lying around in our closets that have never been worn? Some of you are probably like me in that you actually have clothes that still have tags on them. Can you imagine a life in which you only had one or two outfits? The little girls in our orphanages live that life. They don’t have the luxury of going into a closet full of various options. So we are going to partner with The Pillowcase Project to make pillowcase dresses for the 375 plus girls in the Seeta and Lira Villages.

This is a project that I want you to partner with our ministry in making happen. There are various ways that you can participate in this project.

First, we will be hosting a local Pillowcase Project in our office in the month of May. We will have several people come together with sewing machines in tow to starting making our first batch of dresses. If you live in the area we would love to have you join us. You don’t have to know how to sew to be part of this as we need people to cut, iron, and hand stitch. We need all the people we can to make this a success!

Second, if you live somewhere else but want badly to help in some way you can do so my sending supplies to our office. You can send pillow cases, fabric, ribbons, and buttons to our office so that we can use them to make the dresses.

Third, host your own Pillowcase Project and send the final product to the office. We will provide you with the proper information on how to make the dresses. You get together your church group or a group of friends and start sewing.

I am getting very excited about the projects and getting these dresses to our girls. We are already talking with a fashion designer to see if we can get a basic pattern made in order to make shorts for the boys. If we don’t come up with a way to make them we will actually buy them clothing there in Uganda so we will also be taking cash donations. If you prefer to make a cash donation to help with supplies please specify this in the check memo by writing “Pillowcase Project”.
