Mountain Lakes woman builds school in Uganda

Cindy Garrison, a young philanthropist, is making her mark on Uganda by building a secondary school in Namayumba, Uganda, an impoverished village. Garrison first visited a neighboring town for a mission trip and realized that something was missing. There was no secondary school (equivalent to a U.S. high school) for children to attend after completing primary school. So, she became committed to fulfilling this need for the Ugandan children. She raised money by advocating for the cause. She connected with many people, including the Christian Drama School. The Christian Drama School helped her raise money by creating a DVD. The DVD was produced and sold, with proceeds from each going towards this new secondary school in Namayumba. To date, the school now has a completed foundation, and construction continues. How exciting that a seemingly insignificant individual can make such a difference! What difference could you make?

Kids are Going Back to School

The orphan children in Uganda are going back to school for their second term. As many of you know, the school system in Uganda is different than it is here in the states. There, we have four terms and four breaks. Now, they are headed back to school for term number 2.

This means a break for moms during the day and work for children.

Student Science Fair

Recently, Ugandan students displayed their creativity at a Science Fair! Most of the students don’t have much access to laboratories, so all of the projects at the fair were very simple, yet very useful and creative instruments! One students demonstrated how to make a refrigerator out of jerry cans and charcoal, while other students from a local college showed how to make soap from simply vegetable oil, caustic soda, lemon, and salt!

Continued Good News!

It seems that more and more often we are seeing stories like this; and I couldn’t be happier about it! Another Northern Uganda school is receiving a large grant from an outside organization. This particular organization is based in Canada and is called the Ssubi Foundation! They are graciously donating money to the Lela Obaro Primary School so that they may be able to build a new library as well as teacher’s quarters! I will never become tired of reading and hearing about stories like this one!
