The Ugandan government recently conjured a plan to inject sh50b into the Housing Finance Bank. This is being done in order to hopefully give more people opportunities for housing and development! This is wonderful news as there is a deficiency of 100,000 housing units in Kampala alone! More and more banks are being encouraged to offer more people affordable mortgages so they have a better opportunity to own their own homes!

7 Year Old Boy's Sunday Drive
I can’t resist the opportunity to share such a story! I’m sure most of you have seen and heard the story of a 7 year old Utah boy who took his family’s car on a Sunday drive, all because he did not want to go to church! The boy’s parents aren’t speaking to too many reporters, as they don’t want the child to feel all the attention is to condone his bad behavior, but it’s still a humorous story nonetheless! The entire story could have ended in tragedy if the boy was to have an accident, but I think God must have been riding along with this little boy on this day, even though he didn’t feel like going to church!

Makerere University
Makerere University in Uganda is a prime example of how much of a desire students in Africa have to get a good education! Makerere seems to be the place to do it! The school has recently admitted 1,110 foreign students from all over Africa. A total of 15,345 just Ugandan students have been admitted in recent years! Its incredible to see this much of a desire from people to learn and make a better future for themselves! These people attending the University will soon be the doctors, dentists, etc. that will continue to transform Africa and Uganda!

Over 900 people in the Mayuge district received free medical treatment as part of a two day medical camp being held in the area! The camp was organized by CYROF Ministries Uganda that is based in a United States Church, Central United Church! So many people were taking care of thanks to the large numbers of antibiotics, and other medicines that were brought to the area!

Lots of Hungry People!
I will be going to Austin, Texas on Friday to meet, preach, and pray for hungry people; people who are hungry for God! In the summer, when there are so many activities constantly going on, to see hundreds of people go to church on a Friday night, you know they are hungry! I call these people, "die hard's!" They are "die hard's" for the Kingdom! Would you please pray that the Lord will pour his spirit down on them on Friday?!

The Power of Partnership
Do you know that one is too small a number to do anything great? If we want to accomplish things bigger than ourselves, we have to enter into a life giving partnership with people, organizations, etc. Mark 2:1-12 talks about four guys who partner together tho help one man get to where Jesus sat in order for him to be healed. One could not do it alone, two was still to few, but when together, a miracle happened! It is possible that your dreams will requires partnerships to be accomplished! What partnerships do you need to develop?

Filler or Pillar?
In Revelations 3:12, the Lord talks about making us pillars in the temple of God. Before we talk about Heaven and how the scripture applies, lets talk about a typical church. We have two types of people; typical attendees (fillers), and supporters who are committed and strong believers (pillars). Which one do you think you are?

September
In September, I will be criss-crossing the country with a very busy schedule of traveling! I will be traveling to Washington, North Carolina, Dallas, Texas, as well as Orlando, Florida! It's going to be quite busy but from what I can tell, God is up to something great! I, as always, need your prayers so that I may be able to serve God's people!

Team to Train Brain Surgeons!
I mentioned in a post a couple of days ago about a group of people from Duke University visiting Uganda, as well as our church! Well, it looks like these wonderful friends have even made it into one of Uganda’s leading newspapers, New Vision! This is well deserved as these amazing people are here in order to train Neurosurgeons! Uganda previously only had five of these specialized doctors throughout the entire country but with Professor Michael Huglund and the group from Duke’s help, the country will soon have more! They will be working with interns and training them, then eventually, once they pass all their training and courses, they will be awarded their Masters in Neurosurgery!

Little Boy Conquers Big Mountain
Earlier this month, Allan Murwana was among the first to reach the summit of Mt. Muhavura in Kisoro! Being quite young, this was an incredible feat for such a little boy! Allan’s father was also participating in the climb, but fell behind his son in the strenuous climb and reached the summit much later! It’s truly amazing what people are able to accomplish, regardless of age, if they just put their minds to it!

From Waste to Fuel
Most countries and organizations in today’s world are working hard to find ways to cut down on energy bills, become greener and eco friendly! One man in Uganda has done just that! The phrase “turning lemons into lemonade” summarizes his plan! Abasi Kazibwe Musisi has found a way to take excess waste and turn it into briquettes that can be used as an alternative to firewood as well as charcoal! His briquettes cut down on the burning of charcoal, which doesn’t burn clean, as well as limits the amount of trees and forestation that has to be cut down for use as firewood. This is a much cheaper and cleaner way for people to live in Uganda!

Education and sports minister Namirembe Bitamazire has commissioned the rehabilitation of a Kampala school! The school was vandalized by a rebel insurgency but will now soon be seeing new life! More Districts Will Soon Have Clean Water!
650 Million Shilling will be used to further a clean water project for many districts surrounding the West Nile, Lango, and Acholi sub-regions! The entire project should be completed sometime in September so residents won’t have long to wait before they have access to clean water! Clean water is a resource that is lacking in many areas in Uganda and the fact that new projects are being funded to provide this resource, is such a blessing!

Pen Pals
I just found a really amazing story about a couple of pen pals. Lisa is from Tempe, Arizona and Vincent was from Uganda. The two started writing one another way back in 1964! They immediately became the best of friends, regardless of the distance between them! They shared with each other about their lives, and the people in them, and Vincent shared with Lisa the problems that were currently going on in his country! Vincent was eventually able to visit Lisa in New York in 1974, this of course making their bond even stronger! In 1993, Vincent became very sick, and Lisa remembers one of his last letters asking her to please take care of his family, as he had a wife, and two children. Vincent’s wife passed away in 1999, leaving their children orphaned. Lisa and her husband immediately wanted to adopt the two children, but Uganda did not allow adoption to the United States. Robert started writing to Lisa, telling her how much he wanted to go to college and get an education. Lisa and her husband quickly got Robert enrolled in an information technology program at the University of Phoenix (paying for all of his classes), and before they knew it, Robert was coming to the United States to walk with his graduating class from the University of Phoenix! Robert was able to get a job with his education!

30 Mile Walk for Ugandan Children!
A group from Breckenridge, Colorado recently went to Uganda and participated in a 30 mile walk to help raise awareness about, as well as fight to end child sacrifice! From 40 to 60 people, from places as far apart as Breckenridge to Dallas, took the 30 mile walk! The walk took a lot of dedication and commitment as most of the walkers said that the first 20 miles were a piece of cake, but the last 10 were almost unbearable, as the heat of day beat down upon them! This was an incredible display of dedication and hope and was undoubtedly a success!

Hima, a Uganda Cement company, donated several desks, a 10,000-liter water tank, as well as tree seedlings to three education districts! Uganda News
Yesterday, we had over 30 new mission team members come to our church, primarily to serve the National Hospital which I helped set up for them! Lead by Dr. Harmond from Duke University, this has been the 3rd or 4th trip they have made this year! Yesterday, they worshipped and then in the afternoon they visited our children in Seeta! We really appreciate all of their help in revamping our medical services in Uganda!

Sunday Evening in Cleburne
Sunday evening, we had an incredible time out; even after this Pastor from Uganda stepped on a few toes as I challenged people to reach higher, and to fuel the burning desire in peoples lives to maximize their lives with our hearts open to hear the message! I was able to lay hands on almost everyone, as people responded to the Alter Call almost 100%! The front row had to be moved to accommodate the massive numbers! Tears ran down the cheeks of some as God revived, transformed, and healed lives! Keep up the prayer guys, it seems to be working!

My trip to Cleburne this weekend was incredible! Though I preached long, it seemed that everyone was engaged! It is mentioned in Africa, that people go event to event, while in the U.S, people go from time to time, in other words, when its time to go, its time to go! Thankfully, this wasn't the case this weekend! I encouraged them to trust the Lord during these challenging times and I was also able to pray for individual needs! I challened them all to come back in the evening! It was glorious! As always, I really appreciate your prayers!

At the same time, she has been working with our widows and single moms, teaching them how to care for our children in Seeta. They have been learning many things that are practical and relevant when it comes to teaching our children! Ann is continuously changing the thought patterns of women! She is truly a blessing!

A Kampala primary school celebrated last weekend, honoring children’s rights and responsibilities! The children sang and read poems and asked for education, clothing, food and shelter. Later, they enjoyed cake, as well as playing football! Having these children ask for a better life and education is heartwarming, and I hope God can help us grant that for all Ugandan children.

Tractors and other crop cultivation projects will soon begin in parts of Uganda! This is welcomed news for most of Uganda considering the recent famine conditions that have been plaguing the area! Free tractors and seeds will be distributed in the area to farmers in hopes that more and better crops can be grown! This last Saturday it was a good sight to see all the leaders from across the spiritual spectrum converge from 8-12pm. Man Opens College in Uganda
I stumbled upon this story and found it too good not to share. It is yet another example of how God works through people! A Ugandan man moved from his native Uganda to Waltham, Massachusetts back in 1999. Because he felt so blessed to have been able to come to the U.S. and be able to establish himself here, he decided he should share his great blessings with others back in his home country of Uganda. With what money he had, he opened a day and boarding school in his hometown of Seeta Nazigo in hopes of helping orphans and other children who cannot afford to attend public school! He hopes to one day have around 800 students and build many more buildings, but at the moment he has 11 classrooms and an administration building and 380 students! He receives many donations for various different people and organizations and any money he has left over from his job in the U.S. after he pays his bills, he sends to Uganda and the school!

Good Humor
During my daily browsing of the New Vision website, which is one of Uganda’s leading newspapers website, I found a story in the business section that caught my eye. The topic of the story was humor in the workplace and how important it is. It started off by quoting Victor Borge, who said that the shortest distance between two people is a laugh. Having humor and positive emotions in your life, I think, are very important attributes to possess especially in today’s world. I believe that if we can just keep a smile on our face, optimism in our hearts, and our faith in God, our daily lives would be made much easier to get through!

President of Uganda Visits Areas Hard Hit by Famine
President Museveni rushed to the aid of many people who have been worst hit by the recent famine conditions in Uganda. Upon arrival, he reassured everyone that just because the crops in the areas have not done very well, that everyone would still be taken care of! The president insured people that money would be put into the region and food, as well as farming equipment will be sent to the area so that everyone can get back on their feet and all the crops can be put back in order! He also instructed that food be delivered to school and that this be of high priority! We are so lucky to have a leader such as this in charge of our country! We will have another mission team arriving in Uganda soon so please keep them in your prayers so that they may accomplish many things while they are there!

Uganda Needs Your Prayers
I’ve been reading and hearing about the drought that is currently going on in Uganda. Many of Uganda’s crops are not thriving as they should due to this! These crops are crucial to feeding many of Uganda’s citizens and I just ask you for your prayers that we may receive rain in order to save the crops and food sources!

I know that my typing of those nine numbers as the title for this entry seems a bit silly, but those nine numbers happened today; in that sequence…kind of! This happened when the clock struck 12:34:56, and today is 7/8/9! The fact that is it actually 2009, and not the year nine, that is where the ‘kind of’ comes in. Either way, this only happens once in every 100 years so I thought I would share it with you as sort of a, fun fact, for the day!

Student Science Fair
Recently, Ugandan students displayed their creativity at a Science Fair! Most of the students don’t have much access to laboratories, so all of the projects at the fair were very simple, yet very useful and creative instruments! One students demonstrated how to make a refrigerator out of jerry cans and charcoal, while other students from a local college showed how to make soap from simply vegetable oil, caustic soda, lemon, and salt!

Memorial
I know that many of you watched the Michael Jackson Memorial yesterday on television. At times, I believe it seemed like more of a celebration of his life, than a somber memorial with all the great musical performances and speakers! The service was still very emotional and I know many of you, including myself, will be praying for his children and his family so that they may all be comforted in this time!

Just a Reminder
I know that in today’s world, things can easily bring a person down. Be it the current economic situation here in the United States, a family issue, feeling alone, or what have you, we all have to constantly remember one thing; God is always with us and He will take care of us. Never will He give us more than we can handle, we just have to trust in Him and His plans for all of us!

Continued Good News!
It seems that more and more often we are seeing stories like this; and I couldn’t be happier about it! Another Northern Uganda school is receiving a large grant from an outside organization. This particular organization is based in Canada and is called the Ssubi Foundation! They are graciously donating money to the Lela Obaro Primary School so that they may be able to build a new library as well as teacher’s quarters! I will never become tired of reading and hearing about stories like this one!

Homes for Teachers in Lira
Teachers in Lira, which is one of the towns where we have an orphanage, will soon be provided with more housing worth $100,000. This entire project is being financed by the UN-Habitat along with a few other similar organizations! This will benefit the teachers and children very much in that, if the teachers don’t have to travel very far to work, they will have more motivation and their minds will be fresher for teaching! This benefits the children greatly, because the more they have the opportunity to learn, the more they will learn!

Very Inspirational Story
I just read a story about a woman in Uganda that I think anyone would find inspirational. One day, Rose Lukwago Barigayomwe boarded a bus that would change her life forever. With her children in school, her husband always working, and constantly worrying about money, Rose’s life could easily be termed as stressful. She had fallen asleep on a bus one day, only to wake up and realize that a bomb had been placed on her bus, and due to the blast, she lost one of her legs. She says she remembers the entire time, a voice constantly telling her to keep going, to get herself to safety. Finally, a man helped her off the bus, did his best to stop her bleeding, and before she knew it, an ambulance was coming down the road. The man who saved her from the burning bus put her in the ambulance and offered to pay for the ride to the hospital. During her time in the ambulance, all Rose was thinking was how she would ever pay for all her medical treatment. When she arrived, she was greeted by a doctor friend of her family who took care of everything. While recovering, it was then that Rose realized that God had gotten her this far, and he was, no matter what, going to make sure everything would be alright! With the help of her brother, and her new found faith and inspiration, she got her hands on a new sewing machine and started her own tailoring business. With her first big pay, she immediately went to her church to offer it as an offering! She now has an artificial limb and walks virtually without a limp and has her own tailoring store! It just goes to show, that even when things seem as though they could be at their worst, God is always there, ready to turn things back around! What an incredible story!

Church and Social Media
It seems, in today’s world, everyone is using social media; obviously, I am! I think this is a great way to spread and share some inspiration and apparently some other churches are doing the exact same thing! Some pastors are using Twitter, while others Facebook, but what a great way to share a daily Bible verse, or update friends on upcoming events! With as much negativity that can be found on the internet today, its refreshing to see some using it so positively!

The Spiritual Roundtable
Please remember to pray for the spiritual roundtable in the city of Austin, Texas that is converging this coming Saturday by invitation only. It's a very private event for all of us who pray for transformation to lift up such a city, whose leaders are putting time aside to hear what everyone is hearing from the Lord about the city and to see God's marching orders. Please pray.

This Weekend
This weekend I spoke at Cornerstone Church in Rowlett, Texas. It was interesting to because after the service, the church had prepared lunch for everyone as a church wide Independence Day celebration! Since I had nothing on my schedule for the afternoon, I decided to hang out with my host and others! The chicken was just wonderful - I cleaned my plate! But, even more refreshing than that, the fellowship of God's people was the most refreshing!

A Very Interesting, yet Strange, Story
As most of you know, I spend a little time browsing the web for stories and news about Uganda. One of the sites I normally frequent is www.newvision.co.ug, this is Uganda’s leading newspaper’s website. Today, I stumbled upon a story that really left me speechless…well; the picture is what really left me speechless. I realize this story isn’t like something I would normally post, but I felt it was too interesting not to share. In Kampala, at a recent tourism expo, a very interesting, but completely normal behaving, bull was on display. Apparently, the animal was supposed to have an identical twin, but unfortunately, one failed to develop correctly. This left the bull looking like this:
There is said to be nothing wrong with him, and the 5th leg is not harmful to the bull, so researchers say there is no need to operate. Wow!

Our Children's Music!
We need a music producer or director to come and meet our kids so that they can make their own music better, as part of their activities. We would like to have someone come in and teach our children more musical skills so that they can eventually make a CD or a video recording that we can send sponsors and send around the world! If anyone is interested or if you know anyone who would be great for this job, please let me know!

Happy Birthday to the Children
Most of our children in the orphanage do not know their birthday. What we do is celebrate a group birthday once a year in July! During this time, each child is given a treat and we have a grand celebration! This is a great time for the kids! That big day is coming up July 31st!

Great News!
I received a surprising phone call from a friend who brought some very good news for the children in our orphanage. Rick Chowdry helped us set up a water treatment plant at the orphanage! Together with UKIDS, we are seriously looking into doubling the amount of water to produced and purified! If all goes well, we might have this water issue taken care of! Please pray for Rick and for UKIDS, they are such a blessing!

Just a Reminder
I just wanted to remind everyone again about the huge woman’s conference that is going to be held in our Christian Life Church auditorium on July 8 in Kampala. The first lady of Rwanda and of Uganda will be in attendance! We are very excited about this and I hope that you keep us in your prayers that everyone arrives at the conference safely and that a lot of good things come from the meeting!

I hope that you all have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend this weekend! There will be many festivities happening all over the U.S. so I pray that everyone stays safe, and has a great time! It is so hot in Texas these days that getting out to watch the fireworks is tough, but I hope to have a restful and relaxing weekend anyway!

50 Ugandan Students to Receive Scholarships!
I think all the help that God and the world are giving Uganda’s children to succeed is paying off! 50 students in Uganda recently received scholarships to attend Brooklyn City College in Pretoria, South Africa! It is amazing to see what happens when you just give these children a chance to succeed; they do incredible things, and I have faith they will continue to do incredible things as long as they have these wonderful opportunities!
